Lion in the streets

The sluggard says, "There is a lion outside! I shall be slain in the streets!" Proverbs 22:13

Is the "Lion", a large obstacle or task, a reason to be lazy? Or do we create a "Lion" by saying the task is too hard or it is not possible? Sometimes I look at tasks and think that it is too big or too hard that I would not do it. Is it the fear or laziness?
