What do Men Want?

A Big Shout Out to Andy Han and Christine Le for putting together the "What men want" video. There were a lot of laughs and that's a great sign of a good video.

Also special thanks to Daniel Kim, Caleb Whang, Travis Wimer, and Rickey Lumpkin for helping put together the "Real Men of NewSong". That was a great hit and may go down to be a NewSong Classic.

Also, did you notice our Women of NewSong stepping up. Patricia and Jane has recently been switching. Great Job ladies.

Also a big thanks to Jeff Lee for stepping up and filling in. Woo Hoo. Also, the other Jeff, thanks for being a part of our team.

Billy and Tom, thanks for stepping up the cameras. I know it's tedious to recable everything, but without you guys, it couldn't have been done. Minesweeper Cyndy, you getting to be a natural with Lyrics.

Don't forget that our CAM Christmas party is this Sunday! There are great stuff planned for you guys, so I hope you guys all can come and be a part of it.

Also we have our NPC Retreat coming up in January. Get your winter gear ready.

If you haven't received an evite for any of these events, let me know so I can put you on.

I guess that is enough for now.

2007 is almost over!

We're heading into the last month of 2007 and what a great year it has been. I've been reflecting back as I was editing the Recap video and this past year has been a roller coaster type of year. From the many versions of the "In the Round" format to the "Are we going or are we staying" pendulum, 2007 was a year to remember.

But now 2008 is upon us and how exciting is it to look ahead to the its potential. Here are a few things to look forward to.

VIBE Meeting: December 1, 2007 @ NewSong Church, Irvine 9:30 AM
DV EXPO: December 6, 2007 in LA Convention Center
NPC Retreat: SnowBoarding
CAM Christmas: December 16, 2007 at Tony Kim's Home
NPC Retreat: SnowBoarding, Date: TBD
Easter 2008: March 23, 2008

I am truly grateful for all of you. Sunday cannot happen without you guys! Have a great week!

Final Cut Pro Training Sessions

I've been asked by a handful of people to teach Editing on Final Cut Pro. It will consists of three sessions that will meet Tuesdays at 6:00 pm starting November 6 at NewSong Irvine.

Session 1: Getting started with Final Cut Pro.
Session 2: Basic Editing
Session 3: DVD Authoring and Web Video

Requirements:
• MUST COMMIT to all three sessions. NO FLAKES, since this is my way of serving you on my own time, I hope you won't take me for granted and flake in the middle.
• Commit to being a part of the Pot Luck for all three sessions. Since it will be during dinner time, I figure we should have dinner together.

Answers to Questions you might have:
(1) If I am not a MAC person or edit with IMOVIE on a Mac, would this session help me?
- This class will be using Final Cut Pro but most editing systems are similar, therefore yes, it can be helpful.

(2) I don't have any experience, can I still participate.
- This training will be geared for the beginners.

(3) Why am I doing this?
- There are many ministries needing video help and since I can't do them all, training people could help empower others to do what I can't do.

Deadline for signups will be Tuesday, October 30th. Space will be limited and priority will go to my Production team volunteers.

If interested, send me an email with the following information.

(1) Name
(2) Equipment (Computer, Software, Hard drive)
(3) Ministry
(4) Contact Info (Phone Number and Email)

Horsie Dance

At the NewSong Retreat, I had to be initiated since I skipped out last year. I danced and boy did I dance. But after seeing this dude, I feel ashamed. He pretty much took my dance to another level.

Letter from our NSLA Film Team Missionaries

We hope all is well in your life as we would like to share some exciting news in ours. We’re going to India. “Why?” you ask. Well, keep reading.

The four of us have been invited to document an event put on by Truthseekers International over the Thanksgiving holiday. If you click the link at the end of this sentence, you’ll see information on the event from their Footwashing India brochure (link)…Okay, done reading?

As you know, we dabble in film, video and photography. Some of us are even lucky enough to make a living at it. As artists, we have a unique gift that can not only bless Truthseekers and the Indian people, but also you at home. We’re called to be witnesses of the gospel and this event is the gospel in action. What better way to demonstrate God’s love for people than through honoring, blessing, praying for and washing the feet of Indian peoples who have been rejected for centuries in India? And we get to witness this grand act of love. Not only that, God has blessed us with the opportunity to bring back the words and actions of our brothers and sisters in India back to you. This opportunity is tailor made for us to use our talents to bless others…and by tailor, we mean God.

Join us, will you? Here’s the help we need. Most importantly, please partner with us in prayer. Some things to pray for:

- God’s protection against spiritual and physical obstacles
- Sensitivity to His will
- A collaborative attitude
- That we can capture this event honestly and truthfully

Also, our goal is to raise $2500 each for airfare, food, production costs and other living expenses while in India. We will be leaving on November 10th and coming back on the 24th. Please send your support by November 3rd (checks payable to NewSong Church, tax deductible - write INDIA MISSION in subject line if you dont have a reponse card) to:

NewSong Church
5800D Hannum Ave
Suite D
Culver City, CA 90230

Thanks for reading. Hope you enjoyed it.

Love and Blessings,

Production Hang Out Night

Thank you all who came out for this months P.H.O.N. I was very blessed by all who showed up and shared. It's funny how little we really knew of each other, until we are forced to share.

Who knew we had so many Swing Dancers and have someone who got kicked out of Korea! A Christina vs Gwen feud was fueled. And it's amazing how long some of our team has been apart of the crew!

For those who missed out, I hope you don't miss out next month!

Here are some announcements:
(1) NPC Crew Shirt Design Contest - We tried to have one last time and no one submitted anything. Maybe if you submit, you will win out of default.

(2) NPC Retreat - The winter is right around the corner and hopefully snow is around the corner. We will be heading up to Big Bear so keep your eye out for more information to come.

(3) New Members - Johnny Nguyen and Andy Han. If you see a new face in the booth or camera, go say hi and welcome them to the team.

Special Thanks to my wife, Tina for hosting all of us. Everyone give her hug and a thank you when you see her.

Proverbs 24:13-14

"Eat honey, my son, for it is good; honey from the comb is sweet to taste. Know also that wisdom is sweet to your soul; if you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off."

Hey guys,
I can't believe today marks my one year anniversary with NewSong. How the time has flown by! I look back at this past year and it's great to see all God has done in NewSong as well as my own personal life. Wow!

What an action packed Sunday! From the talk of "pollinating", to Drama to Special Song to Nancy's Commission, we did a great job. So far this series has been great for our NewSong and you all had a part in it.
For those who was wondering who the person in the booth was, it's Andy. He's our newest volunteer! He got to listen in to the behind the scenes clear comm chatter.

Well the P.H.O.N (Production Hang Out Night) will be on Thursday, October 11 @ 7 pm! We made it on a Thursday so that Martin can join us. So if he doesn't show up, we can all give him a hard time. An Evite is being created, so be on the lookout for it.

As we prepare for the move, let's really enjoy this time of rest and build each other up.

Free and Clear

It's great to be back! I missed you all! Well a lot has happened since the last post. The new ministry has started, Vaillen Fong is back, and we have another addition to our Production family.

Welcome Andy Han! He works for Technicolor in Anaheim and has a heart to serve, especially in the arts. Our team is growing and just in time. We'll be moving out of this building and become portable real soon. Probably by December.

What does this mean? It means that we will be in the trenches again and we will have great opportunity to really bond this season. I also met with a company called Portable Church, who might be helping us become portable.

Check out their video
http://www.portablechurch.com/video.htm

Obviously, our setup will be more intricate and intense, but I'm looking forward to being able to start from scratch and really streamline our production booth. Especially getting rid of the "black spaghetti" coming down into our booth.

Also be on the lookout for an Evite for the next P.H.O.N. It will be at my new apartment and we'll be bbq'ing and initiating our new team members. Woo Hoo!

Sam and Tina Song

Hey guys! I'm a married man now. I can't believe it! I'm sorry I couldn't have all you guys join me but I do wish everyone was there.

This video is just a quick highlight I had to put together (on my first day of marriage) to show at a second reception that was held in Cerritos.

I'll see you guys when I get back. Hold down the fort!

NewSong Town Hall 2008

For those that missed out on a great time of Worship and hearing what the status of our church is, you can check it out. Make sure you have time cuz it's 1 1/2 hour long. You can download it too.

Special Thanks to Billy and Patricia who helped out!

Also here is Dave's message from this past Sunday. This is a good way to see how you did this Sunday.

NPC Homecoming King & Queen

Did you know it was Homecoming weekend this Sunday? Well not only did we have a great Sunday, but we did also have a great Homecoming celebration a.k.a. Volunteer Appreciation night! Thank you all for tirelessly serving!

Thanks to Ray for training Shelly Ramirez on lyrics. Shelly, you did a great job and hopefully we can have you do it again. Also let us all thank our boy Chris who will be away for awhile doing amazing things. He's one that I know I don't have to worry about showing up when it's his time to serve. Always faithful! Hope you have a great trip.

And let's all welcome back Jeff Lee! He made a DH appearance for first service to help out Tom as he moves to his new pad. Came back with a vengeance with his slick camera moves and quick iris fingers! Go Angels... the dirtiest ballpark in the MLB. Ha Ha Ha!

Also thanks to Martin Baek for filling in and as always big props to our NPC's Homecoming King and Queen, Billy and Patricia. It was great to see them be recognized. You should have seen Billy do his "wrist-wrist, elbow-elbow" wave. For those that missed it, you missed our hangout at Mochi-Latto. It was my treat too. Maybe next time.

Now on a more serious note, I would like all of us to pray for our church. Our church is really in need of our prayers. Especially trusting in God for pulling us out of this financial crunch. I can share with you privately if you want to know more details. Please pray and if you haven't been faithful in tithing, Give!

I also urge all of you to come to Townhall this Sunday! Please don't be a bench warmer but get in the game. I hope you guys all love our church enough to be an active participant. I hope I'll see you all there.

Welcome Back Jason and Hello Johnny!

Wassup my peoples,

What another great Sunday! I want to give big props to my man Billy Chan! I saw his leadership tendencies come out when I saw the team gathered around Jason showing him the JVC camera. I just sat back from the booth and watched you guys really rally together to welcome Jason and to really set him up for success!

Also big props to Jason, who just got back from Italy! Great job on the camera. I know its hard when you are first up, but I promise it will get easier. Also many thanks to the veteran team of Tom, Patricia and Jane. Like always you guys shine through. Tony Calvert and his mastery of zip tying the ladder that Dave G was expected. Always on top of it when it comes to his ninja ways.

Next week is the volunteer appreciation night! Mark it on your calendars. This is when NewSong can really show you their appreciation for your sacrifices on Sundays. We will be celebrating with the Frontline, Noah's Crib and Student Ministries. So if you haven't got the invite yet, Holla!

And finally, let's welcome our newest potential team member, Johnny Nguyen. He sat in the booth for second service and got to see the behind the scenes of a Sunday service. Hopefully he will be joining us soon.

Well, One thing I learned is to keep these things short and sweet! You guys are the best!

Dave Gibbons shares from the heart

This is why I love NewSong. For those that didn't get a chance to hear what Dave shared, check this video out. This is the renewed vision of NewSong and this is why we are going mobile. This is why I am so excited for our new adventure that is about to begin.

I just want to encourage you to keep our church in prayer. It will be a difficult transition but when we come through the other side, we will be able to see it's all worth it.

In the Trenches

Exciting times are up ahead! For those who haven't heard yet, NewSong Irvine is about to go mobile! Oh yeah! More details to come, but please be in prayer as we will need to figure out the logistics of it all.

This friday at P.H.O.N, Billy, Patricia, Tina and I really got a chance to bond and talk about "being in the trenches" together. With this transition of being a portable production team, I think it will really develop a sense of comradeship. Being in war together.

This past few Sunday have been pretty powerful. Especially this past Sunday's first service when Dave went up and shared what was on his heart. I think the whole production booth started to get teary eyed.

I truly appreciate all you guys who faithfully serve and hope we can continue to develop our friendships and community.

Now don't forget to mark down on your calendars for the Volunteer Appreciation Night on August 12! You should have gotten an evite already. If not, email me and let me know.

Now on a side note, check out Christine Le sleeping on the couch before service is to begin. But give her a break, she drove down from Bakersfield the night before and this was her 2nd week straight serving. Don't worry, I'm going to find a replacement for you this week.

Bleeding Blue and Orange

The CAM Softball team is set and registered in the Irvine League! Thanks to all who joined the team. This season is going to great!

For those who wonder why are we called Bleeding Blue and Orange, it is because we have Dodger and Giants fan on our team. But I am a big METS fan, who got their colors from the Dodgers and Giants who were both in Brooklyn, I thought it was only appropriate.

If you guys still want to join the team, let me know! I will be glad to put you on our roster. There is a fee involved but I guarantee you will have a great time!

Woo Hoo!

NewSong in the LA Times

Hey guys,

NewSong Church was in LA Times on July 23, 2007. It's a cool article on the whole concept of Church Without Walls. Especially with the big move in October, its really getting exciting. Read up guys.

Musicians on Production

What happens when you put a bass player on camera and an electric guitar player behind the sound board?
You get SINERGY! (Sorry for the reference to pasts videos).

Thanks Tim for filling in for me this past Sunday. There was no way I could have been on camera.

Also big thanks to Steve, who has joined the sound team. A great addition to the team.

Tom, I think you have something against Brennan Manning. First, you put the "tape near end" on his face during the VIBE Conference, then on Sunday, you make sure everyone knows there is only "20 minutes left" for his message. Hee Hee. I'm just joking with you. I know how hard it is to direct and I think you did a phenomenal job. Thanks for being there all the time.

Jane and Ben, you guys are as solid as a rock. Thanks for your great camera work. Cyndy, we almost had a big disaster with the video, but it all worked out at the end. I think the rest of adrenaline got used up at that moment. Ray, thanks for all you do. I love it when you come in and say that all the lyrics was done the night before. Thanks for also taking care of the scheduling. Scott North, as always, the ultimate ninja. Getting Brennan up and down that circle stage can be challenging.

Well, the lighting was fun to do and thanks to Neil and Ron, we have more intelligent lighting up and running. So if you are interested, let me know and we'll get the team going again.

Also, don't forget about the P.H.O.N! Make sure you reply to the Evite!

See you Sunday,
Sam

The Ordinary doing the Extraordinary

I wanted to share this Youtube clip with you guys. He went on to win the whole competition. Another reason to not to think you are too ordinary to be involved in doing the Extraordinary!

Did you feel the VIBE?!

Man, what a weekend! Brennan Manning was so powerful! Dave Gibbons really opened his heart to us and the praise was off the hook!

It was a great time to serve together with the NewSong LA team! Thanks to Billy and Patricia for serving all of Friday and Saturday! Super Troopers. Also shout out goes to Jane and Tom for serving as well.

The NSLA team was awesome! John and Gary stepped up to the challenge Saturday morning learning the new board and directing. And I couldn't have imagined what I would have done without Tracy Wu! A true professional. Yooch and Mike, thanks for serving! I know how busy you guys must have been. Thanks!

I've been asked several times, when is the 4040 filmfest!

Answer: Soon... Hopefully it will coincide with the Worship Night in September! If you want to help out with the planning of it, let me know!

P.H.O.N (Production Hang Out Night) July 2007

Hey my beautiful brodaz and sistaz!
how's everything going??

Well, unfortunately last months Phon has been cancelled due to our busy busy schedule... i hope we won't have to do that again... =p
This time we'll be meeting at the CHAN's again!! We are going to have a POT LUCK for dinner and after that we will have a blast with different kinds of board games..and perhaps maybe a little bit of Wii action on the side..
If you can't cook, you can always bring utensils or drinks or desserts...so no worries~

So far everytime we met, we had a great time...and I'm hoping that by sharing some time with eachother this will help us to make one step forward in knowing eachother and start to share God's love... but this event itself is not enough to build a community that we're looking for...so I encourage everybody to meet up independent of PHON and really get to know eachother..

And please mark your calendars for next months event... 8/25 Saturday. For NEXT PHON we will have a BEACH BBQ/BON FIRE NIGHT !! so, please save that date... if you have any friends you would like to bring spread out the words and especially the peeps you would like to recruit, it'll be a great time to bribe them...hehehhe ; p

oki doki...that'll be all folks!
have a great day~
oh..please reply to this evite and sign up for something to bring, please, thank ya~

Jane

Volunteer Appreciation Night

August 12, 2007

Mark this date on your calendar! It's time to be appreciated! We will be celebrating jointly with all the rest of Sunday's Volunteers! Make sure you make it to this event!

The iPhone is here at NewSong

Scott "The CG Extroadinaire" Lee recently bought the iPhone. Amazing how they fit all that in that iPod.

I couldn't resist! I had to pretend it was mine and walk around showing it off. How easily we covet! I refuse to buy into it, even though I am an APPLE geek.

But obviously, I was not the only one.

What a great Sunday guys! Dave G. really brought it this Sunday. It was a great sight to see all those people in front of the circle stage. Do you guys feel it! Something big is going to happen.

Crazy props to all who was up this Sunday! Next week, we will be having Brennan Manning coming to speak.

Also for all the ballers, we're thinking of playing basketball next Sunday, so bring your shoes and shorts. Also, we're putting together a softball team to play in the Irvine League. If interested, let me know.

YOU GUYS ALL ROCK! Thanks for serving so diligently!

Lion in the streets

The sluggard says, "There is a lion outside! I shall be slain in the streets!" Proverbs 22:13

Is the "Lion", a large obstacle or task, a reason to be lazy? Or do we create a "Lion" by saying the task is too hard or it is not possible? Sometimes I look at tasks and think that it is too big or too hard that I would not do it. Is it the fear or laziness?

Just a thought I took from "Taste and See" by John Piper.

Hey guys,

If you want to help out, let me know. So far I only have the Chan's and Jane volunteering. We are in need of help. If you are available, let me know!

If you just want to just relax and enjoy the conference just sign up at http://newsong.net/vibe
